Ostrom’s move is delayed, new Thai restaurant set to open, Tipsy Piano Bar closes

Ostrom’s, the longtime mushroom grower near Lacey, isn’t relocating to the Yakima area just yet, President David Knudsen said.

He said the business will harvest through mid to late May, then complete its transition to the other side of the mountains.

“Any number of things delayed us,” said Knudsen, including winter weather, supply delays and the challenge of finding workers in a good economy, or what Knudsen called “full employment.”

“Everybody is looking,” he said about employers.

Ostrom’s occupies a 35-acre parcel at Steilacoom Road Southeast and Marvin Road Southeast. The land has yet to be marketed for sale, he said.

-A Thai restaurant called Nou Thai is set to fill the space left vacant by El Guanaco and open the last week of March, the owner, Siriporn Jala, said.

The business at 415 Water Street SW will serve Thai food, but will offer a pared down menu, similar to the kind of street food one would find in Thailand, she said.

Nou Thai will serve lunch and dinner and likely operate six days a week. Hours are still to be determined, Jala said.

-Tipsy Piano Bar at 514 Capitol Way has closed, according to its Facebook page..

“All of us here at Tipsy want to say thank you sincerely to everyone who made Tipsy possible, including our amazing employees who kept our customers coming back, the incredible musicians who brought our evenings to life, and the Oly community who supported us until the very end!,” the Facebook post reads.

Signs on the building say the space is for lease. The business occupied that spot for about two and a half years.

-Super Buffet, an Asian-themed, buffet-style restaurant off Galaxy Drive Northeast, which was temporarily closed after a poor inspection, earned high praise from the county health department after it was inspected on March 9.

The business had no red points after its last inspection, said Sammy Berg, a senior environmental health specialist. Berg shared the inspector’s comments with The Olympian.

“The inspection shows the hard work by the owner, managers, and employees toward improving their practices. We look forward to seeing their continued focus on making great food in a safe fashion.”
