Washington state coronavirus cases jump to 568, deaths up to 37 in latest update
Washington state coronavirus cases now total more than 500, the state Department of Health announced Friday afternoon, including two more cases in Pierce County and new cases in Yakima and Columbia county.
Thurston County now has two new confirmed cases, county officials announced late Friday.
Deaths stand at 37, with 32 of those in King County, four in Snohomish County and one in Grant County.
Sixty-seven cases are unassigned to a particular county.
The state stepped up its coronavirus prevention efforts dramatically on Friday after Gov. Jay Inslee ordered schools to close throughout the state. Public school districts in Thurston County also made a similar move.
The governor also expanded the ban on public events and gatherings to all counties and ordered higher education institutions to not hold face-to-face classes during the six-week period, although online classes could be held, The News Tribune reported Friday.

▪ Snohomish County: 133, four.
▪ Unassigned: 67.
▪ Pierce County: 19.
▪ Island, Kitsap, Kittitas, Skagit and Thurston counties: three cases each.
▪ Yakima County: 2.
▪ Grant County: 1, 1 death.
▪ Clark, Columbia, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Whatcom counties: one case each.
Washington state has 39 counties.
Total Tests
▪ Positive: 568.
▪ Negative: 6,001.
