The man who drove his truck into East Bay swerved to avoid hitting a deer, police say

A 29-year-old man who drove his pick-up truck into East Bay over the weekend had swerved to avoid hitting a deer, according to Olympia police.

The man was driving on East Bay Drive about midnight Friday when he encountered the deer and drove onto the mud flats, Lt. Paul Lower said.

The tide was out, so the man locked his vehicle doors and went home, Lower said. The pick-up truck was discovered late Saturday morning after the tide had come in, submerged in water.

Emergency responders determined that no one was in the vehicle, then the pick-up truck was towed out of East Bay about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Lower said.
