2 dead after shooting in Hawks Prairie Sunday morning

A man was found dead and a woman died at an area hospital after a shooting in Hawks Prairie Sunday morning, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The man and woman were in their early 20s, Lt. Ray Brady said.

About 5 a.m. Sunday, deputies were dispatched to an apartment in the 9300 block of Skokomish Way after a man called to say his girlfriend had shot herself. When deputies arrived, the man was found dead and the woman later died at an area hospital.

Both had suffered gunshot wounds, Brady said.

Detectives are now trying to figure out the sequence of events that led to the shooting, he said. They’re not sure if it was a murder-suicide or whether both had committed suicide, Brady said.

The apartment showed signs of a domestic disturbance, he said.
