The Port of Olympia commission approved a resolution this week to help two groups potentially affected by the COVID-19 crisis: port tenants and those who live aboard boats at Swantown Marina.

For port tenants, the resolution suspends notices of default, late fees and penalties for nonpayment of rent. For liveaboards, the port will not impound or sell a vessel. Both groups also will not be charged interest or face lease reinstatement fees.

However, the resolution does not forgive lease or moorage payments, and the two groups also will have to qualify for the relief, according to the port.

“Any port tenant or liveaboard seeking these suspensions or deferrals will need to provide self-certification of the adverse impact of the COVID-19 crisis on their inability to pay rent or moorage,” the port news release reads.

The resolution is in effect for 90 days for real estate leases and for liveaboard moorage, unless the resolution is otherwise terminated or extended by the port commission.
