Double-parked vehicle prevents ladder truck from accessing lot, Lacey fire says

A double-parked vehicle turned into a headache for Lacey Fire District 3 Saturday afternoon after it prevented a ladder truck from accessing the site of a fire.

About 1:40 p.m. Saturday, Lacey fire was dispatched to the Dakota Apartments in the 6200 block of Pacific Avenue Southeast after a report of a balcony barbecue fire.

The fire was extinguished before crews arrived, Battalion Chief Steve Crimmins said. However, it still damaged vinyl siding and activated a fire sprinkler on a lower floor.

But if it had been a larger fire, the ladder truck could have been prevented from providing a key service: extending the ladder for a possible balcony-based rescue, Crimmins said.

He said Lacey police were notified and the vehicle was impounded.
