2 men detained after knife fight downtown

Update, April 16: One of the men detained in this altercation was later arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery, according to police. Following interviews with the parties involved, police believe the 57-year-old suspect allegedly took the other man’s jacket during a verbal argument and caused the situation to escalate into the physical fight that ensued.

Two men have been detained by Olympia police after a fight downtown that involved a knife, a spokesman for the department said.

About 10 a.m. Wednesday, police were dispatched to apartments in the 400 block of Capitol Way North after a report of a disturbance, Lt. Paul Lower said.

The two men, thought to be in their 50s, got into an argument that escalated into a fight. One of the men grabbed a knife and swung it at the other man, Lower said.

Detectives, who were already in the area, were able to get the men to stop fighting.

The two men suffered cuts to their hands, but their injuries were treated at the scene, Lower said.

The men were being interviewed by police. No one was arrested, Lower said.
