Yelm woman arrested for pulling a gun on man who kicked her dog, court records show
A Yelm woman appeared in court Tuesday after she was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at a man who kicked her dog, court records show.
The incident happened at Yelm Prairie Elementary School. School grounds are gun-free zones, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy explained at the scene.
Thurston County Superior Court found probable cause to charge Ann K. Gellenbeck, 55, with second-degree assault. She was released on her own recognizance. Arraignment is set for June 16.
According to charging documents:
On Monday evening, the man went for a walk at the elementary school and encountered Gellenbeck, who he knows. The two began to insult each other. He accused her of stalking and harassing him and his family, and she accused him of the same.
The man turned around to go back to his car, while she let her dogs out of her car. The biggest dog ran up to him. He said he feared it was going to bite, so he “pushed the dog away with his foot.”
That’s when he said she removed a gun from her waistband and pointed it at him, accusing him of kicking her dog. The two were at first 12 feet apart, then 3 feet, according to the man. Both called 911.
A Yelm police sergeant and the deputy responded to the call. During an interview, the woman said she told the man she was armed, but denied removing her gun. She also said she had a license to carry a concealed weapon, but it wasn’t on her.
The man’s position didn’t change: He said she produced a weapon and he looked down the barrel of a “really big gun.”
