United Way of Thurston County, Chamber of Commerce team up to distribute cloth masks
A statewide mask-making challenge was announced Friday, and now two Thurston County organizations have put their own twist on that effort.
The Office of Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib announced the Washington Mask Challenge on May 1. It’s a statewide initiative to encourage Washingtonians to make, wear, and donate cloth face masks, according to a news release.
Now, the United Way of Thurston County and Thurston County Chamber of Commerce want to distribute the masks to businesses who need them to give to customers.
But first they need volunteer mask-makers.
If you would like to volunteer, go to https://www.unitedway-thurston.org/washington-mask-challenge where you will fill out a form and you can get instructions on making masks.
For more information, contact Paul Larsen, director of community impact at United Way of Thurston County, at 360-943-2773 ext.113 or PLarsen@unitedway-thurston.org.
This challenge follows the new Centers for Disease Control and Department of Health guidance, advising the general public to wear masks while performing essential tasks. However, the Lt. Governor’s office, United Way, the Thurston County Chamber emphasize that masks are not meant as a replacement for social distancing or proper handwashing.
