A Friendly Grove Road home caught fire early Friday, causing minor burns to one occupant’s hand.

Firefighters responded to the scene at 4:23 a.m. South Bay Fire Chief Brian VanCamp said the blaze was knocked down within 30 minutes, but firefighters were still clearing the scene until around 8:30 a.m.

VanCamp says the home was a total loss.

The source of the fire was identified as a heat lamp on the front porch, which was being used to warm baby fowl. The birds were not rescued.

Olympia and Lacey fire departments also assisted in fighting the fire.
