Olympia woman hospitalized after crash sparks car fire

Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies pulled a woman out of an overturned car on fire around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies and South Bay firefighters responded to the 5000 block of Johnson Point Road after a report of a loud explosion and a vehicle on fire in the roadway.

The driver suffered “severe injuries” and was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Ray Brady. She was identified as a 24-year-old Olympia area resident.

The responding officers believe the collision was the result of driving under the influence.
