Motorcyclist airlifted after crash near Elma Wednesday
A 37-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after colliding with a pickup near Elma in the early morning hours Wednesday, Washington State Patrol says.
State Patrol responded to the crash in Grays Harbor County about 4:45 a.m., according to a press memo.
The Elma man had been driving his motorcycle west on State Route 12 near milepost 21 at high speeds when he collided with the back of a 1996 Toyota Tacoma pickup driving the same direction, according to a press memo.
He was ejected from his motorcycle and found unconscious, according to the memo. He had been wearing a helmet.
State Patrol referred charges of reckless driving to the county prosecutor’s office, Trooper Chelsea Hodgson confirmed.
A 69-year-old Tenino man driving the pickup was wearing a seatbelt and uninjured, according to the memo.
The westbound lane of SR 12 was closed following the crash, with traffic using the turn lane to move around the collision scene, according to Hodgson. The roadway was fully cleared by about 8 a.m.
