Another man has died from COVID-19 in Thurston County, four more diagnosed

Another person has died from COVID-19 and four more people have been diagnosed with the disease, bringing Thurston County’s total to 205 cases with five deaths since the first case was discovered on March 11.

A man in his 70s is the fifth person to die from COVID-19 in Thurston County. It was not clear if he had underlying conditions or is connected to the outbreaks at Thurston County assisted living facilities.

The four new diagnoses are all in women, one in her 50s, one in her 20s and two in the 10-19 age range, according to Thurston County Health and Social Services.

Of the 205 people with confirmed cases, 173 have “recovered” or are “recovering,” county data shows.

In the region

  • Pierce County confirmed 24 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing its total number of cases to 2,198 with 83 deaths.
  • Lewis County announced seven new cases on Thursday, raising its total to 48. Three people in the county have died from COVID-19.
  • Mason County reported no new cases on Thursday. There are 41 total cases in the county and one death.
  • Grays Harbor County reported two new cases Thursday and they are working on tracing anyone that may have come in contact with the diagnosed. The county has had a total of 23 people diagnosed since March.

In the state, nation and world

  • Washington state reported 408 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and 19 more deaths. The state’s new total is 27,192 with 1,245 deaths, data from the Washington State Department of Health shows
  • In the U.S., more than 2.2 million people had been diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Friday, and 118,894 people have died as a result, according to data from Johns Hopkins University
  • Around the globe, more than 8.5 million people have been reported with COVID-19 and more than 457,000 have died from it.

Edit: A previous version of this article stated that Lewis County had reported no new cases on Thursday, when in fact seven new cases were reported.
