Man’s body found in Nisqually River on Saturday
A man’s body was recovered from the Nisqually River Saturday afternoon, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
About 3 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office and an area fire department were dispatched to the river after a kayaker spotted the body, Lt. Ray Brady said.
The man was thought to be in his 40s, he said. Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock said Sunday he was still checking on whether next of kin had been notified about the man’s death.
Brady said he believes the man was a suspect in a June 25 burglary at the Nisqually Pines community in Yelm, which is up river from where he was found.
On the morning of June 25, deputies interrupted two burglary suspects. One of them was taken into custody, but the other man fled in the direction of the river, Brady said. Deputies lost sight of the man as he attempted to cross it, he said.
The body was found in the river in the area of Sumac Court Southeast.
