Belfair man flown to Seattle hospital after crash in Mason County Thursday

A 24-year-old Belfair man was flown to a Seattle hospital with serious injuries early Thursday, after his car rolled on State Route 3, Washington State Patrol says. His was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to a WSP news release. The man was driving a 2001 BMW passenger car south on SR 3 at about milepost 25, near Belfair, at a high speed. He failed to negotiate a curve in the road, according to the release, crossed into the highway’s northbound lane and hit an embankment.

The car eventually rolled, the news release says.

The injured driver was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the release, and was flown to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

The highway was completely blocked for 3 hours and 45 minutes.
