68-year-old pedestrian hit, injured by minivan in Lacey late Tuesday night
A 68-year-old Lacey man was transported to the hospital after he was struck by a minivan while crossing College Street Southeast Tuesday night, according to police.
Just before 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Lacey Police officers responded to the scene in the 5000 block of College Street and the injured man was lying on the sidewalk, Sgt. Shannon Barnes told The Olympian. Police believe the driver of a 2004 Chrysler Town & Country minivan had been headed south on College and didn’t see the man attempting to walk across the road when the crash occurred, according to Barnes.
The man was transported by ambulance to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Barnes said, and was in the hospital’s intensive care unit as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The driver, a 31-year-old woman, stayed at the scene of the collision, was cooperative, and officers did not detect any sign of impairment due to drugs or alcohol, Barnes said. The incident was still under investigation Wednesday morning, so Barnes said it is unknown if charges will be brought against the driver.
