25-acre prescribed burn planned near Rochester Thursday

The Center for Natural Lands Management is planning to begin a 25-acre prescribed burn Thursday morning about two miles northeast of Rochester at Glacial Heritage Preserve.

The burn is expected to start at about 11 a.m. and last between two and three hours, according to a CNLM press release. It’s aimed at controlling invasive shrubs and restoring prairie habitat.

Burns are conducted by firefighters with “abundant training and experience” and equipment necessary for a safe burn, according to the release.

Wind is expected to blow west-southwest during the burn. Report nuisance smoke by calling 360-584-6418.
