Thurston County ends week with 93 new COVID-19 cases after 12 more announced Sunday

Thurston County ended the week with 93 COVID-19 cases after 12 more were announced Sunday.

The 93 cases is the second highest weekly total since Thurston County Public Health and Social Services began tracking the virus in early March.

The 12 new cases on Sunday included a man and woman in their 70s, but everyone else was 50 or younger, including six people in their 20s, the data show.

The number of people ages 20-29 contracting the virus continues to grow. That group now accounts for 23 percent of the overall total of 578 cases in Thurston County.

Of the 578 cases, 308 have recovered or are recovering, 46 patients have been hospitalized at some during their illness, six have died and there have been two congregate care setting outbreaks at Olympics West Retirement Inn in Tumwater and Infinite Care Adult Family Home in Lacey. Both no longer have an ongoing COVID-19 situation, according to the county.

▪ Pierce County announced 92 more cases on Sunday, giving the county 4,411 cases resulting in 106 deaths.

▪ Lewis County has reported 153 cases and three deaths.

▪ Mason County has reported 110 cases with one death.

▪ Grays Harbor County has reported 81 cases with one death.

Across the state, nation and world

Washington state had 52,635 cases with 1,501 deaths as of Monday, according to the state Department of Health.

In the U.S., nearly 4.3 million cases had been reported as of Monday with more than 147,000 deaths, John Hopkins University data show. Globally, more than 16.3 million cases have been reported, resulting in more than 650,000 reported deaths.
