Lacey Fire responded to a water rescue call on the Nisqually River Wednesday afternoon.

At around 3:45 p.m., Lacey Fire Department received a call that a boat holding two people had gotten stuck in a log jam on the Nisqually River.

Rather than try and swim to the river bank, the two passengers on the boat called 911 for help.

Lacey Fire and Thurston County Sheriff’s Officers arrived on the scene, each bringing rescue boats. Eight swimmers from the departments assisted in the rescue, said Lacey Fire District 3 Battalion Chief Pat Harn.

When swimmers found the two boaters, they saw the boat had been pinned to a log jam. The boaters stayed in their boat and kept their life jackets on,

After an hour in the river, the boaters were back on dry land, uninjured and safe.
