Road work to close Deschutes Parkway Aug. 24-28
Road work will require the closure of a large portion of Deschutes Parkway to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic from Aug. 24-28, according to a spokesperson from the Department of Enterprise Services, which manages the Capitol Campus.
That includes closing the area to parking. Currently, that stretch of Deschutes Parkway is home to a number of long-term RV residents.
Olympia’s Homeless Response Coordinator has been working to notify the people in the RVs of the road closure and DES is continuing to engage daily with the parkers.
The work includes replacing expansion joints on both sides of the bridge south of Marathon Park, as well as streetscaping, repairs to light poles, and adding ADA access to the crosswalk near the Fifth Avenue dam.
The portion of Deschutes Parkway between Fifth Avenue and Lakeridge Drive will be totally closed to traffic, with partial closures between Lakeridge Drive and Interstate 5.
The pedestrian loop around Capitol Lake will remain open, but the sidewalk along the train tracks will close.
Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic and accommodations will be made for emergency services to pass through, according to DES.
