14 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday increases Thurston County total to 762
Thurston County Public Health and Social Services on Saturday announced 14 new cases of COVID-19, increasing the weekly total to 85 and the overall total to 762.
Of the new cases announced Saturday, three men were in their 60s, while everyone else was 50 and younger, including two girls, ages 0-9.
The overall county COVID-19 data looks like this: Of the 762 cases, 536 people have recovered or are recovering, 57 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness, 10 have died and there have been four congregate care setting outbreaks.
Two of those outbreaks, previously reported at Olympics West Retirement Inn in Tumwater and Infinite Care Adult Family Home in Lacey, are no longer considered to have an ongoing COVID-19 situation.
The two new locations have not been disclosed.
In a letter to the community, Thurston County Health Officer Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek wrote that one location is “in a six-resident adult family home where two residents and one staff person tested positive. Another outbreak was confirmed in a residential group home. Three residents and nine staff members have tested positive thus far.”
Abdelalek declined to name the facilities, but she said the outbreaks at the two homes may have contributed to Thursday’s record-high daily case total of 35.
She said neither outbreak location has been revealed because the county has not deemed the locations a threat to public health.
“We want people in our community to feel safe and to have confidence that our department’s team of investigators and contact tracers are working around the clock to protect the health and safety of our community while also safeguarding confidential personal information and abiding by federal and state laws,” Abdelmalek wrote.
