Thurston County adds 13 new COVID-19 cases Friday
Thurston County Public Health and Social Services on Friday announced 13 new cases of COVID-19 in residents, which brings the county’s total to 836 cases of the virus confirmed since the first local case was reported March 11.
According to county data, the latest residents to be diagnosed are:
- A boy 9 or younger;
- A girl between age 10 and 19;
- A woman and man in their 20s;
- Two men and a woman in their 30s;
- A woman in her 40s;
- Two women in their 50s;
- A woman and man in their 60s; and
- A man in his 70s.
A total of 11 county residents have died due to complications related to COVID-19, 58 have been hospitalized at some point during their illnesses, and the county considers 657 residents “recovered” or “recovering.” Those numbers stayed the same from Thursday to Friday.
Local public health officials consider a person “recovered” or “recovering” if they’re not hospitalized and have been released from public health-ordered isolation; however, people who have recovered could still have ongoing health problems related to COVID-19.
The county is still reporting four ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks at local congregate care facilities. County Health Officer Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek and the public health department have not named the sites of the outbreaks, saying they want to maintain the privacy of facility residents and staff.

- Pierce County reported 96 new COVID-19 cases Friday and two deaths., bringing the county’s totals to 5,937 cases and 132 deaths.
- Lewis County reported Friday that nine more people have tested positive in the county, and that three residents are now considered recovered. The new cases are in one person under age 20, four in their 30s, two in their 40s, and two in their 50s. One of the newly diagnosed residents is hospitalized. The county has now reported a total of 260 cases and four deaths.
- Mason County reported six new cases Friday, bringing the county’s total to 274 cases with one death. The county considers 64 of the cases to be “active.”
- Grays Harbor County had not updated its cases as of Friday afternoon, leavings its totals at 135 cases and three deaths.

- Washington state’s Department of Health was reporting a total of 66,139 cases of COVID-19 Friday and 1,755 related deaths since the virus was first reported in the state.
- In the U.S., more than 5.3 million people had tested positive for the disease and more than 168,000 people had died from it as of Friday, data from Johns Hopkins University show.
- Globally, more than 21 million cases of the disease had been reported as of Friday, with more than 762,000 deaths connected to it.
