Pedestrians help driver whose car rolled over near Capitol Campus

People flocked to help a driver out of her vehicle Thursday evening after it rolled over in front of the 14th Avenue tunnel near the Capitol Campus.

At around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, a 23-year-old woman tried to turn into the tunnel off of Capitol Way, but took too wide a turn and began heading into the Plaza Garage entrance, Olympia Police Lt. Paul Lower said. When she realized her error and tried to correct, she hit a steep curb, causing the car to rollover onto the driver’s side, Lower said.

Multiple pedestrians saw the rollover happen and went to help the driver out of the vehicle, Lower told The Olympian.

According to Lower, while some attempted to get the woman out of her car, others called 911 and soon Olympia Police and Fire were on the scene, propping the car up and freeing the woman from it.

Once out of her car, the woman was evaluated by medics and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital for an arm injury, Lower said.
