Thurston County reports 9 more COVID-19 cases and a 12th death on Saturday
A man in his 70s has died and nine more confirmed cases of COVID-19 were announced by Thurston County Public Health and Social Services on Saturday.
The man’s death was the 12th in the county tied to the novel coronavirus. The nine new cases were a man in his 70s, a man in his 60s and everyone else was 50 or younger.
The county’s overall total of confirmed cases is now 917. Of those, 670 people have recovered or are recovering, 59 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 12 have died.
There also are now seven congregate care setting outbreaks, including at the Thurston County Jail and what the county has described as “two adult family homes, one adult group home, and two long-term care facilities.” A sixth location has yet to be described by the county, The Olympian has reported.
“The most important ways you can stay safe are maintaining six feet of distance with non-household members and wearing a face covering, limiting social gatherings to ten people or less per week, and gathering outside when possible,” said Thurston County Health Officer Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek in her letter to the community this week.

▪ Pierce County announced 68 more cases on Saturday and three more deaths, all of whom had underlying health problems. They were a Parkland man in his 80s, a South Hill woman in her 70s and a Tacoma woman in her 40s. The county now has 6,378 cases and 142 deaths.
▪ Lewis County had four new cases on Saturday to give the county 321 with four deaths.
▪ Mason County is still reporting 300 cases with one death.
▪ Grays Harbor County, as of Thursday, is still reporting 184 cases with five deaths.

Washington state is reporting 70,595 cases and 1,857 deaths, according to the state Department of Health. The U.S. is home to more than 5.6 million cases and 176,000 deaths, Johns Hopkins University data show. Globally, there have been more than 23.2 million cases and 806,000 deaths.
