An afternoon blaze destroyed a one-story rambler Sunday east of Pattison Lake, Lacey Fire Department reports.

At 2:44 p.m., neighbors on the 5100 block of Vale Court SE reported flames, explosive sounds, and smoke coming from the front door, according to Deputy Fire Chief Jennifer Schmidt.

When firefighters arrived, the home was already so engulfed in flames they could not go inside. A downed power line was strewn across the front yard.

No one was home at the time.

Firefighters left the scene just before 6 p.m., Schmidt said. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
