Developer pitches big apartment complex for Hawks Prairie
A developer has proposed building 183 apartments in northeast Lacey, an area of the city busy with development in every direction.
According to information submitted to the city of Lacey, the Fife-based developer is Scott Griffin of the Freestone Companies.
The Olympian was unable to reach Griffin, but city official Ryan Andrews said Griffin previously developed Freestone Station, a residential development in Lacey’s urban growth area near McAllister Park.
According to the plans submitted to the city, the 183 apartments will be spread across 12 buildings on about 9.5 acres in the 7200 block of 32nd Avenue Northeast. The land is zoned moderate density residential, according to the city.
The proposal was received by the city in June and the application was deemed complete on Aug. 26. The public has until 5 p.m. Sept. 9 to comment on the project. The city has yet to receive any comments from the public, Andrews said Wednesday.
Much of the recent development in northeast Lacey has been large warehouses. One of those near completion is The Home Depot distribution center, which is across from the Target distribution center on Hawks Prairie Road Northeast.
But it’s not just light industrial and multi-family development coming to the area.
Providence St. Peter Hospital and joint venture partner Fairfax Behavioral Health also have submitted conditional use and wetlands permit applications to the city for Olympia Behavioral Health, a new mental health hospital planned for 3000 Marvin Road NE.
The hospital is proposed to be about 76,000 square feet, large enough to accommodate 104 patient beds, according to information shared by the city.
