Community organizations, it’s time to send in your information for the 2020 Sourcebook

If you are part of a community organization or nonprofit of any kind in South Sound, listen up. We are putting together the 2020 Sourcebook, an annual guidebook to our community, and we are inviting you to submit your information for the resource listings in the back of the book.

The deadline for those entries is Sept. 25.

For those of you who have been submitting information for your groups for years now, it might feel a little strange to get this announcement in September. The book has traditionally be published in June or July, but this year, with the pandemic, it was one of many things that were placed on hold.

The other change this year: The book will be entirely online.

While that may be a disappointment for some of you, the change is a sign of the times. When people want to find a local group of fly fishers or needlepoint mavens, need a diabetes support group, or are curious about which service organizations are active in South Sound, they no longer go rummaging through a stack of magazines to find the answer. They simply look at their phones or tablets.

So we’re going to provide the information in a digital format that will be easy to search and use.

Some of the rest of you might not use the annual Sourcebooks we publish. But lots of new residents and visitors do. It is filled with groups to join, events to attend, and all manner of useful information about how to get along around here.

But there are a few guidelines you should know:

  • The listings are generally limited to nonprofit groups.
  • We don’t take entries over the phone or via mail, and we don’t go scrape entries from websites. Information must be emailed to news@theolympian.com by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
  • Send us the name of your organization; a brief (100 words or less) description of the organization; days, dates, and times the group holds meetings; an email address, and a website address, if you have one; a contact name and phone number for your organization, in case we have questions about what you sent.
  • Information must be emailed to news@theolympian.com by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.

If you know of an organization that doesn’t get listed or doesn’t know about the book, please let them know. We need everyone’s participation to continue to make the Sourcebook as complete and useful as possible.

Send any questions to ddemarest@theolympian.com.
