Local credit union is opening branches in Olympia and Lacey supermarkets
Twin Star Credit Union, which has found success operating out of Safeway stores in Centralia and Yelm, is set to expand on the idea in Olympia and Lacey, Chief Executive Jeff Kennedy said.
A new branch at the west Olympia Safeway on Harrison Avenue is set to open Sept. 14, followed by a branch inside the Hawks Prairie Safeway on Marvin Road on Sept. 28.
Customers like the convenience of one-stop shopping, but there are other reasons this makes sense for Twin Star, Kennedy said. The credit union doesn’t have a presence in that part of Lacey, he said, plus the credit union is closing a location at 2400 Evergreen Park Drive SW in Olympia. It will close Sept. 11, according to a news release.
It was a longtime location for the credit union, Kennedy said about the Evergreen Park site, but it also wasn’t very convenient or visible for customers. Twin Star leased space from Thurston County for that location, he said. Kennedy said there are no layoffs associated with the closing.
Once the new branches open, it will give Twin Star eight in the county, he said. They will operate 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
Twin Star also announced a day for paper shredding, technology recycling and a food drive.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Hawks Prairie Safeway, the credit union will offer free paper shredding and a chance to recycle technology components, and will collect donated food for the Thurston County Food Bank.
There’s a two-box limit on shredding. As for the recycling, the credit union will accept computers, tablets, laptops, microwaves, cabling, stereos and old gaming systems. The credit union is not accepting printers or monitors.
