Thurston County adds 8 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday to make 1,086 total

Thurston County added 8 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, and one person was hospitalized.

The new cases included two males and a female in their 20s, a female in her 30s, two males in their 50s, a male in his 60s, and a female in her 70s, according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.

Those 20-29 continue to be the largest demographic in the county with the most cases, or 240 cases to date, representing 22 percent of the overall total, county data show.

The 8 new cases increased the overall total to 1,086. Of those, 887 people have recovered or are recovering, 76 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 15 have died.

The number of COVID-19 facility outbreaks still stands at five. One of those is the Thurston County Jail. Three adult family homes and an assisted living facility also have an ongoing COVID-19 situation.

In the region

Pierce County announced 41 new cases on Friday and three new deaths. The deaths include a woman in her 60s from Tacoma, a woman in her 70s from South Pierce County, and a man in his 70s from Gig Harbor. All three had underlying health conditions. The new cases give the county 7,103 with 160 deaths.

Lewis County reported seven new cases on Friday, increasing its total to 427 with four deaths. The new cases were five people in their 30s and two people in their 20s.

Mason County reported three new cases on Friday, giving the county 375 with three deaths.

Grays Harbor County announced six new cases on Friday, increasing the county’s total to 331 with six deaths.

Around the state, nation and world

Washington state reported 78,467 cases and 1,985 deaths Friday afternoon, according to the state Department of Health.

In the U.S., 6.4 million cases have been reported with 192,834 deaths, Johns Hopkins University data show. Globally, there have been more than 28.3 million cases and 911,988 deaths, the data show.
