Week begins with 2 new COVID-19 cases in Thurston County
Two more confirmed cases of COVID-19 were announced Monday by Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.
The two new cases were a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 20s, increasing the overall county total to 1,095, the county data show.
Of that total, 907 people have recovered or are recovering, 78 people have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 15 have died, county health data show. The previous number of hospitalizations was 75, but three people have been hospitalized the past week to increase the total to 78.
The number of ongoing COVID-19 facility outbreaks continues to be five, the data show. As of Sept. 4, those facilities were the Thurston County Jail, an assisted living facility and three adult family homes, according to the county.

▪ Pierce County announced 20 new cases on Monday, giving the county 7,200. Deaths were unchanged at 160.
▪ Lewis County announced nine new cases for a total of 441 with four deaths.
▪ Mason County announced three new cases, increasing its total to 378 with three deaths.
▪ Grays Harbor County announced 41 new cases Sunday night to give the county 372 with six deaths.

The state Department of Health on Monday reported 312 new confirmed cases and 15 deaths from the weekend, giving the state 80,138 cases and 2,006 deaths
In the U.S., 6.5 million people have contracted the virus and 194,000 have died as a result, according to Johns Hopkins University data. Globally, 29.1 million people have been been afflicted and 925,000 have died, the data show.
