Bail set at $100,000 for man accused of stabbing another man Sunday afternoon

Bail was set at $100,000 this week for a man accused of stabbing another man near downtown Olympia Sunday afternoon, Thurston County Superior Court records show.

Bail likely was set that high because of the suspect’s extensive criminal history, which dates to 1998. He also has two pending misdemeanor assault cases before him and a risk assessment rated him “high violent.”

The court found probable cause to charge Jeffrey G. Jordan, 50, with second-degree assault.

According to charging documents:

About 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Olympia police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Fourth Avenue East after a report of assault. Police later interviewed the victim, a man in his 20s, at Providence St. Peter Hospital. He told police he was hanging out in a stairwell behind a business in the area when Jordan suddenly appeared. Jordan was agitated and put up his hands as if to fight, the victim said.

The victim said he knows Jordan by sight, but not by name.

The victim stood his ground and they got into a fight. At some point, he was stabbed in the chest with either a pair of scissors or a screw driver, the victim said.

A witness, who watched from a nearby apartment, corroborated the victim’s account, according to the charging documents.

Police later interviewed Jordan who said he was homeless and sleeps in the area. Jordan allegedly told police that the victim was the aggressor and did not admit to stabbing him. Questioned for more details, Jordan stopped the interview and asked for a lawyer.

Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said the victim has been released from the hospital.
