Olympia man dies after 2-car crash on Old Highway 99 Saturday night

A 37-year-old Olympia man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and other criminal offenses after he crashed into a vehicle on Old Highway 99 that killed a 54-year-old man, according to the Washington State Patrol.

He also was booked on suspicion of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run, according to the State Patrol. Troopers also suspect that he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The 37-year-old man reportedly tried to run from the scene.

About 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a 51-year-old female driver and her 54-year-old male passenger were headed north on Old Highway 99 at Waldrick Road Southeast when the 37-year-old man, also driving north, crashed into their vehicle.

The 54-year-old man died at the scene. The 51-year-old woman was injured and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
