Pet bird, cat die in mobile home fire near Black Lake

A fire damaged a mobile home overnight near Black Lake, a spokeswoman for McLane/Black Lake Fire Department said Monday.

Crews were dispatched to the 5600 block of Black Lake Belmore Road Southwest just before midnight Sunday, Davie Kindell said.

Fire damage was limited to the laundry area, she said, but there was smoke damage throughout that likely will result in a “total loss” to the mobile home, she said. The fire originated in the dryer, she said.

The female resident was unhurt because she was alerted by a smoke alarm, but a pet bird and cat died in the fire, Kindell said.

McLane/Black Lake fire received support from Tumwater Fire Department.
