Passionate about local public transit? Intercity Transit looking for volunteers
Intercity Transit, the public transportation agency that serves Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Yelm, is recruiting volunteers to sit on its governing board and serve on its advisory committee. Applications are due Oct. 14, 2020.
There’s one opening for a citizen representative on the agency’s nine-member board of directors, the Intercity Transit Authority, according to an IT press release. The board sets policy for the agency and includes representatives from the Thurston County commission and local city governments, as well as a labor representative and three appointed citizen representatives.
According to the release, IT is unique among public transit authorities statewide in including citizens as full voting members on its board — citizens serve three-year terms and have to live in the Public Transportation Benefit Area outlined in black on this map:
The board holds two public meetings per month and special meetings as needed, according to IT’s website. Materials from previous meetings are available online.
The agency is also recruiting new members for its 20-member Community Advisory Committee that represents a cross-section of the community in the benefit area and gives input to the agency on local public transportation issues, according to the press release.
The group — made up of 19 members who serve three-year terms and one youth position that serves a one-year term — holds public meetings once per month, according to IT’s website.
Archived meeting packets and a schedule of the committee’s upcoming meetings are available online.
