Capital Mall gets a unique shoe store, a music school grows, Grocery Outlet adds a site

A new shoe store that will feature shoes from a shoe-making community in Mexico has opened at Capital Mall in west Olympia.

The store is called Estileon, or “styles from Leon,” which is the name of the city in Mexico.

“The city is known as Mexico’s shoe-making capital with more than 3,000 shoe-making enterprises,” a news release reads. “Many businesses are small and produce their shoes by hand. More shoes are produced in Leon than any other city in the Spanish-speaking world.”

The store offers shoes for men and women — shoes that can be worn for work, for a night out, or for relaxing, according to the news release. The store is also selling leather handbags and wallets.

The store features shoes designed by Armando Estrada, Lobo Solo, GACI, Pazstor, BarCassi and Clinton.

Although the store is open now, a grand opening is set for October.

Other business happenings

The Tuned In Academy, a music school at 202 Phoenix St. NE in Olympia, has expanded, owner Sean-David McGoran said.

The business has taken over the site’s finished basement, giving it 630 additional square feet, he said.

“COVID-19 was, of course, a little bit of a challenge for us, but all of our families and team members have been great in making it work, and we are excited to fill the new space with music!” McGoran said in an email.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market has opened a location in Yelm at 1000 E. Yelm Ave. The opening created 35 new jobs, owners Greg and Stefanie Vinyard announced.

“We are overjoyed to be a part of the Yelm community and be able to provide big savings on quality groceries,” the owners said in a statement.
