Thurston County announces 17th death, plus 9 new cases of COVID-19
A man in his 60s has died and nine new cases of COVID-19 were announced Wednesday by Thurston County Public Health and Social Services, increasing the overall total to 1,152.
The nine new cases were a woman in her 90s, a man in his 80s, two men in their 70s, two men in their 60s, a woman in her 50s, a woman in her 30s and a male between the ages of 10-19, the data show.
Of the overall total, 961 people have recovered or are recovering, 92 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and now 17 have died. One adult family home is still experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak, according to the county.
Although the county has reported 17 deaths, both the 16th and 17th deaths are pending a final determination on whether they were related to COVID-19, the data show.
IN THE REGION
▪ Pierce County on Wednesday announced 43 cases and three more deaths, giving the county a total of 7,555 cases and 169 deaths. The three deaths were a man in his 70s from central Pierce County, a woman in her 70s from Graham and a man in his 50s from Spanaway.
▪ Lewis County reported three new cases for a total of 491 and four deaths.
▪ Grays Harbor County was still reporting 466 cases and six deaths as of Tuesday night.
▪ Mason County reported three more cases on Wednesday for a total of 407 cases and four deaths.
AROUND THE STATE, NATION AND WORLD
The state Department of Health on Wednesday reported 509 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths, giving the state 83,702 cases and 2,081 deaths.
In the U.S., 6.9 million people have contracted the virus and 201,000 have died as a result, according to Johns Hopkins University data. Globally, 31.7 million people have been afflicted and 973,000 have died, the data show.
