Semi-truck wreck delays northbound I-5 traffic near Maytown

Motorists should expect delays on northbound I-5 near Maytown in Thurston County after a semi-truck jackknifed, blocking traffic, according to the Washington State Patrol.

As many as 15 vehicles are thought to have wrecked as a result, Trooper Ryan Burke said. There have been several minor injuries but nothing life-threatening, he said.

According to Trooper Burke:

Just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, a white passenger vehicle, reportedly being driven erratically, crashed into the center median on the freeway. A second vehicle then crashed into the white car, he said.

The driver of the white car then pulled back into traffic and left the scene. That caused a semi-truck driver to hit the brakes, followed by a second semi-truck that hit the brakes and jackknifed.

After the second semi-truck jackknifed, it triggered a series of smaller wrecks, he said.

A detour is in place, he said. Traffic is being diverted via the off ramp in Maytown, Burke said.
