Tumwater man unhurt after 7-vehicle wreck on I-5

A 21-year-old Tumwater man was one of seven drivers involved in a wreck on Interstate 5 Sunday, but the man was unhurt after the crash, according to the Washington State Patrol.

However, three other people were injured.

About 3 p.m. Sunday, vehicles came upon a disabled vehicle on southbound I-5 in Cowlitz County. Although the first three vehicles were able to stop, other vehicles could not, and that triggered a series of crashes with the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh vehicles, troopers say.

Troopers say the Tumwater man was able to swerve around vehicles five and six, but crashed into vehicle four.

A 43-year-old Vancouver man and a man and woman from Battle Ground, both 27, were injured in the wreck.

Troopers say the crash was caused by drivers “following too closely.”
