Two people who died in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in west Olympia have been identified by the Thurston County Coroner’s Office.

Stanley Witt, 83, and his wife Jean, 78, died at the scene of the crash shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Stanley was the driver of the vehicle, and his wife was in the passenger seat. Medical examinations to determine a cause of death have yet to be completed.

A third person was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, Police Lt. Paul Lower told The Olympian.

The crash prompted Olympia police to shut down traffic around the intersection of Cooper Point Road and Capital Mall Drive on Wednesday. The area is heavily trafficked, with the Capital Mall and MultiCare Capital Medical Center nearby.
