1 in custody after rollover crash on northbound I-5 at Nisqually Sunday morning
One person was taken into custody and one is still at large, following a rollover crash on northbound I-5 at Nisqually early Sunday morning, according to those involved.
Both the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol had a hand in the overnight incident.
About 3 a.m. Sunday, a deputy stopped a vehicle on Reservation Road in the Nisqually Valley because it had year-old license tabs, Sgt. Dave Odegaard said.
The female driver and her male passenger refused to roll down their windows and eventually they drove away from the deputy. However, they did not speed away, so the deputy followed them, Odegaard said.
The vehicle wound its way through a number of county roads before deputies finally tried to stop it using spike strips near Rainier Road and Yelm Highway, he said.
Although the spike strips deflated two tires, the vehicle took off and eventually wound up on northbound I-5, Odegaard said.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Robert Reyer said the vehicle crashed at Exit 114, near Nisqually, about 4 a.m. The woman fled from the scene but was later found nearby on Brown Farm Road, he said.
The male passenger is still at large, Odegaard said.
The woman was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault, reckless driving, failing to stop and give information and driving with a suspended license, jail log information shows.
