Thurston County officials decided Friday, and alerted affected parties by letter on Monday, that a public virtual town hall meeting about a proposed site for RV dwellers near Lacey has been postponed.

The meeting was scheduled for Oct. 14. A new date has not been determined.

“On behalf of Thurston County, I am contacting you as a nearby resident of the county-owned property at 720 Carpenter Road NE,” writes Tom Webster, the county’s Office of Housing and Homeless Prevention program manager. “It is with regret I must tell you we will be postponing our Thursday, October 14th Safe Parking Town Hall regarding the temporary relocation of 15-20 households living in vehicles to this site.”

The meeting was postponed so that it will align with all timelines associated with the permitting process for the site, he writes.

“At this time, we anticipate the meeting occurring in early November, with the date, time, and location still to be determined. Please note, county codes require no physical improvements or relocation of vehicles to this site before the town hall is held and a permit is issued,” Webster writes.

County spokeswoman Meghan Porter said a permit application is expected to be submitted this month.

Although this week’s meeting has been postponed, the county is still accepting questions from the public about the RV site that will be asked during the meeting once it has been rescheduled.

If you would like to send a question, send it to public information supervisor, Meghan Porter, at Meghan.Porter@co.thurston.wa.us.
