A truck stop opens, a Lacey biz will close, yoga instructors come together and developer pitches pickleball

A truck stop known as a Flying J Travel Center has opened in Tumwater on Chehalis Tribal property off 93rd Ave. SW, according to a check of the site and website information.

It’s a Pilot-operated truck stop, just like the one that currently can be found off northbound I-5 in the same area. The Flying J is on the southbound side of the freeway at 2725 93rd Ave. SW.

According to website information, the new Flying J, in addition to having a convenience store, also has a Taco Bell, eight fuel lanes and seven showers, an ATM and a public laundry.

Office Max, a retailer of office supplies, is liquidating inventory and closing its store in Lacey at 1200 Marvin Road NE, according to a check of the property.

Olympia Yoga Sanctuary, a collective effort by several local yoga instructors, is set to open Nov. 1 in the former Presbyterian church at Lybarger Street and Fourth Avenue. Kristi Lyons is the founder. For more about the sanctuary, watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSP754zdLO8.

Ken Adney, the longtime owner of downtown furniture business, Furniture Works, has sold the business to employee Jaycie Grisso, he announced. Furniture Works sells gently used, consignment and new home furnishings at 402 Washington St. NE.

Childhood’s End Gallery at 222 Fourth Ave. W is celebrating 50 years of business with a two-part exhibition series that features 50 artists from across their history, according to the Olympia Downtown Alliance newsletter.

Part 1 of the series runs from October through Nov. 14, followed by part 2, Nov. 19-Dec. 31.

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue — the comfort food of Hawaii — has a location in Tumwater, but it also has a site in Lacey at 1350 Marvin Road NE, Suite H.

In the works

A developer is exploring a new pickleball facility for northeast Lacey, according to city information.

The information shows a 17,000-square-foot facility with 11 pickleball courts, a restaurant, a pro shop, an outdoor stage and gathering area. It also might operate 8 a.m. to midnight and employ 12 people.

Twin Star Credit Union, which is set to open a new branch in the Hawks Prairie Safeway this month, is also exploring a new branch north of the freeway at 2509 Marvin Road NE, according to city of Lacey information.

The credit union is exploring a 2,500-square-foot branch with a three-lane drive through, the information shows.
