Recent bomb threat was delivered via email, Olympia police say

A recent bomb threat that targeted a state office building was delivered via email, according to Olympia police.

Police announced the update ina its weekly newsletter about area crimes. The bomb threat was made Oct. 18.

“The bomb threat reported earlier in the week was from a spam email out of a foreign county,” police officials said in the newsletter, adding that the Washington State Patrol bomb squad responded and determined it was not a credible threat.

However, the threat prompted Olympia police to clear the area around Quince Street Southeast the morning of Oct. 18. Police also closed several roads near Union Avenue and Quince Street. However, Eastside Street and Union Avenue were open by around 9 a.m., The Olympian reported.

A WSP bomb squad cleared the scene, and allowed OPD to reopen roads about 10:25 a.m.
