500-unit apartment proposal in NE Lacey is now official, city information shows
A Las Vegas-based developer, who first pitched the idea of 500 new apartments in northeast Lacey over the summer, has made it official by submitting a site plan review application to the city.
That application was submitted last month and deemed complete by the city on Nov. 19. The city has identified the project as the Britton Place North Apartments.
Calida Residential LLC aims to bring 552 market-rate apartments to 2365 Shady Glen Court NE, which is off Britton Parkway, not far from Carpenter Road Northeast.
Bill Hardt, the Calida Group’s development partner for the Northwest, told The Olympian last summer that he expects construction to start next year and be complete in 2023.
Hardt said there is demand for apartments.
“We see it in the Northwest,” he said, adding that people are migrating to the suburbs to escape what he called the “unbelievable expense” of buying a home.
“They are looking for another housing option,” he said.
More than 1,000 multi-family units are either under city review or under construction in northeast Lacey. In addition to Britton Place North, there’s also:
▪ Hawks Prairie Mixed Use, a 350-unit development, including a pickleball complex, which is bordered by Hogum Bay Road, Willamette Drive and Marvin Road Northeast.
▪ Willamette Apartments, a 216-unit apartment project proposed by Seattle-based Tarragon LLC at 3200 Willamette Drive NE.
▪ Griffin Multifamily, an 183-unit development in the area of Marvin Road Northeast and 32nd Avenue.
The comment period for Britton Place North ends at 5 p.m. Dec. 3, according to Lacey information. To comment, send an email to senior planner Sarah Schelling at sschelli@ci.lacey.wa.us.
