The Chabad Jewish Center of Olympia is organizing a 40-vehicle menorah parade along with other events to start the post-Thanksgiving holiday season and bring in the eight-day festival of lights.

The car parade will leave the Chabad center at 1770 Barnes Blvd SW, Tumwater, at 3:45 p.m. Sunday and will wind through west Olympia and downtown, ending at Swantown Marina for a drive-in menorah lighting celebration at 4:30 p.m.

Lt. Gov. Denny Heck will lead the menorah lighting and will be joined by several other elected officials. There also will be music and food, as well as a game show.

“After the difficulties we have all experienced, the importance of community has never been more clear,” said Chabad co-director Rabbi Yosef Schtroks in a news release announcing the events. “We’re thrilled to be able to safely host this family-friendly event, and it’s an incredible feeling to be part of such a visible celebration of Hanukkah.”

Chabad is organizing several giant menorah displays and public Hanukkah events throughout the state. More information can be found on Chabad’s website.
