Water will be shut off to this downtown Olympia block early Thursday
A water valve replacement project this Wednesday and Thursday (Dec. 1-2) will slow traffic and temporarily shut off water to a downtown block, the city of Olympia announced.
The work is set to take place at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Jefferson Street. Crews are expected to prepare the site Wednesday morning; the water main will be shut off overnight Thursday to replace the valve.
During the prep work from 8 a.m. to about noon Wednesday, the left lane of Fourth Avenue East will be closed between Adams and Jefferson streets, according to the city.
Then, between 2-6 a.m. Thursday, water service to the 400 block of Fourth Avenue East will be shut off.
That same morning, water customers within a four-block radius of the area could experience discolored water, which is caused by sediment. This is normal, city officials say.
If this happens, customers should run their water until it is completely clear, according to the city.
