A Shelton man who died following a single-vehicle crash in Pacific County has been identified, according to Washington State Patrol.

Donald E. Williams, 65, crashed his vehicle on Dec. 14 and was taken to an area hospital. His family was notified by Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, a State Patrol memo reads.

About 4 p.m. Dec. 14, Williams was headed north on U.S. 101 in the Chinook tunnel, which runs along the Columbia River not far from the Astoria-Megler Bridge.

Troopers say Williams lost control of his car in the tunnel, crossed the center line and struck the southbound wall of the tunnel.

His Toyota Camry then rolled and landed on its top in the northbound lane. Williams was ejected from his vehicle and landed in the same lane, according to State Patrol.
