Lacey closes Rainier Road south of Horizon Pointe after area floods

Lacey has closed Rainier Road south of the Horizon Pointe neighborhood at the train tracks after the area began to flood.

City Manager Scott Spence announced the closure at Thursday night’s Lacey City Council meeting, saying the area was under about 6 inches of water after heavy rains pounded the area Thursday.

The city also is warning drivers about standing water in the Intelco Loop/Yelm Highway area, Spence said.

Spence said Rainier Road could reopen this weekend, but he also pointed out that more rain is in the forecast for Monday through Wednesday.

Flood warnings went into effect late Wednesday night, according to Thurston County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service in Seattle, The Olympian reported. Rain and lowland snowmelt have caused excessive runoff into rivers, creeks, streams and other areas prone to flooding.
