Olympia man killed when he was hit by a truck on I-5 in Lewis County

A semi-truck driver struck and killed an Olympia pedestrian on Interstate 5 in Lewis County late Tuesday evening.

The collision occurred at 11:38 p.m. near the Newaukum Golf Course south of Chehalis, according to a State Patrol press memo. The driver, a 53-year-old Tacoma man, called first responders, per the memo, but the Olympia man died at the scene.

State Patrol believes the truck driver hit the pedestrian while the pedestrian was walking in the left lane of southbound I-5. Drugs and alcohol were not involved, the memo says.

The identity of the pedestrian has been withheld while next-of-kin are being notified, per the memo.
