Law enforcement detonates large amount of explosives discovered at Yelm area home
Law enforcement detonated a large amount of explosives found Tuesday at the Yelm area home of a person who had recently died.
Thurston County deputies initially responded after family of the deceased reported finding explosives and explosive-making material, according to a Wednesday news release. A multi-agency response then descended on the home in the 20000 block of Neat Road Southeast in the afternoon.
Deputies called in the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad to safely dispose of the explosives in several controlled detonations, the release says. KING 5 reports the Federal Bureau of Investigations and a hazmat crew also were involved.
No injuries were reported and there is no further danger to residents in the area, according to the news release. The Sheriff’s Office notified residents of the explosives via social media on Tuesday and asked them to avoid the area.
“TCSO would like to thank our citizens for their patience during this incident as well as our local, state and federal partners for their assistance,” thenews release says.
The release does not indicate how many explosives were found or why the items were located there.
